Dry Needling

hi, My name is

Carly Testa

I am originally from St. Petersburg, Florida. I have lived in Miami for the last ten years, working as a licensed Physical Therapist in an outpatient orthopedic setting. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in Exercise Science. I continued my education at Winston-Salem State University to earn a Masters degree in Physical Therapy. Upon the completion of my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to spend a few years in Japan and California where I welcomed my two beautiful sons. I returned to Florida in 2012 and immediately and enthusiastically resumed my work in physical therapy.

In the last ten years of my career, I have been working with wide variety of patients including young athletes recovering from sports injuries, middle-aged weekend warriors, and the geriatric population dealing with degenerative processes. I have also been able to assist post-surgical clients recover from procedures including rotator-cuff repair, shoulder labrum repair, knee and hip replacements, knee meniscectomy surgery, foot and ankle surgery, spinal fusions and discectomies to name a few.

I have had the opportunity to perform dry needling on professional athletes to promote quicker recovery and facilitate elite-level performance. Another gratifying facet to my work has been providing home-health rehabilitation when clients are physically unable to come to the clinic for treatment. The most fulfilling aspect of my physical therapy career has been the opportunity I have to aide my clients in both their physical transformation and personal recovery journey. I am truly excited to go to work every day because it never feels like work!

My passion for all types of wellness, including nutritional, physical and spiritual, inspired me to expand my skill set to include teaching the practice of yoga. I began my pursuit by completing a 200+ hour certification by YogaReview. I currently teach Hatha-style yoga that incorporates Pranayama (breathwork) and Meditation into my classes. My background in physical therapy uniquely allows me to tailor my teaching practices to safely consider the orthopedic injuries of my students.

I am also certified to practice dry needling through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. Dry needling uses thin acupuncture needles to give the muscle a deep internal massage while targeting trigger points. Needling improves circulation and aides in pain relief, reduces muscular tension and promotes faster recovery from injury.

Additional treatment techniques I am qualified to offer is cupping and myofascial manipulation. Vacuum cupping separates the fascia from the muscle which improves circulation and myofascial pain while removing toxins from the body. I earned my Myofascial Manipulation Certification from the University of St. Augustine. I use myofascial manipulation as part of my message technique in conjunction with physical therapy for symptom relief.
